Time is running out. That is why the Mayor of Wallgau is pushing the pace in school renovation - and not just there.

Wallgau - There was radio silence for months. The last discussion on the future of the Wallgau primary school is said to have taken place on April 2, 2019. "Nothing happened after that for a long time," the new town hall chief Bastian Eiter (voters' association) informed the astonished local council.

When asked why there was a standstill for over a year, the successor of Hansjörg Zahler (CSU) is cautious and diplomatic towards the Tagblatt: "Everyone can draw their own conclusions from this." "Multiple" is due to the urgent need for action at the school location Wallgau / Krün has also been informed by the responsible school authority director Gisela Ehrl. "It is all the better that the new mayor wants to tackle this with determination." If you believe his words in the town council, Eiter finally wants to get out of this idle state.

Contact the school office

After weeks and months of speechlessness, the head of the town hall sought contact with the two school office directors Ehrl and Markus Köpf in Garmisch-Partenkirchen shortly after taking office. Eiter reports of "a very good conversation" - with the bottom line that the renovation or new construction of the Wallgau School - decided unanimously in the municipal council on June 26, 2018 (!) - is long overdue. In addition, Eiter easily heard at the meeting that physical education in the future must take place in a contemporary atmosphere. "It was made clear to me that people would not be watching for long," said the mayor to the council members.

If the Schulverbund Wallgau / Krün wants to avoid that their children will be carted to another location for physical education in the future, then action should be taken. Planning in Wallgau is therefore not only in the direction of school renovation, but the construction of a so-called small sports hall is also being pursued. This met with undivided approval in the municipal council. "We all agree that we should put all our levers in motion," threw Philipp Hubbauer (CSU), for example. "This is absolutely important for Wallgau," added Mayor Bernhard Wilde (voters' association).

Budget: 1.2 million euros

A look at the budget just approved shows how serious it is for him and his colleagues. In the case of projects for 2021, the construction of the hall budget is 1.2 million euros. Treasurer Hans Zahler is assuming a state grant of 400,000 euros. That left the village with a net cost of 800,000 euros. Three million euros are expected for the school renovation including new construction - planned for 2022 and 2023. The municipality hopes to receive funding of around one million euros.

As a next step, the responsible government of Upper Bavaria is to be presented with a preliminary design of the 12 by 18 meter hall with equipment and sports teachers' room as well as two changing areas. At the same time, Wallgau agrees with the partner municipality of Krün that the topic of all-day care is dealt with by the neighboring town. Mayor Eiter is determined to do anything. Or as he puts it: "We should promptly create the conditions for a small sports hall."
