Erding - A sign of hope is the huge mobile that hangs in the parish church of St. Johannes in Erding. Many children, adolescents and adults followed the call of Pastor Martin Garmaier and had spent weeks at Pentecost making pictures of tongues of fire and doves as symbols of the Holy Spirit.

Ten parishioners spent a whole day tying the pictures together. An impressive work was created with more than 1200 sheets. "We want to encourage believers in times of the Corona crisis and give them trust in God," said Garmaier.

Pentecost means "the fiftieth day" and is celebrated on the 50th day after Easter. The festival commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit to the apostles gathered in Jerusalem, who suddenly spoke in different languages and could thus bring the word of God to all peoples. The Erdinger symbols of hope remain until confirmation in October. (Peter Bauersachs)
