Hummus-Sana
The municipalities of a number of villages in the Sheen region in the western Homs countryside have completed the first stage of the process of constructing agricultural roads and firecrackers to prevent fires in the area.
Darwish Darwish, the head of the Al-Suwairi Town Council, stated in a statement to a SANA reporter that the main purpose of the process of deforestation and the opening of agricultural roads and fire hoops carried out by the municipalities of Sheen, Al-Suwairi, Jabalaya, Hasur and Al-Maranah around the villages is to prevent the occurrence of fire or its extension and facilitate the arrival of firefighting mechanisms in the event of fire.
And Darwish indicated that the heavy rains witnessed in the region led to the intensive growth of weeds, which is a major cause of fires in the region during the past years, in addition to the failure of farmers to farm rainfed lands and their restriction to the cultivation of agricultural gardens, due to the high costs of the cultivation process.
Darwish called on citizens to be alert and wary of setting fire to the fields in order to avoid the occurrence of fires.
