Now the Federal Government wants to lift the worldwide travel warning for tourists * from June 15, 2020 for 30 European countries. This emerges from a key point paper, which was approved by the cabinet on Wednesday. If the development of the corona pandemic permits, the travel warning for Germany's 26 partner countries in the European Union should be lifted. This also applies to Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Great Britain is also to be removed from the list of countries with travel warnings, and holidays are then possible again without any problems.

Vacation to Corona: Maas (SPD) clears the way?

The federal government in Germany had issued a travel warning due to the corona pandemic. For example, there is currently still a warning against "unnecessary tourist trips abroad." This travel warning, which puts many people's holidays in Germany on unsafe feet, is valid until June 14, 2020. This also applies until June 15 2020 internal border controls at the borders to the following European neighboring countries:

  • France
  • Austria
  • Switzerland
  • Denmark

This also applies to incoming flights from Spain and Italy.

Other European countries have relaxed their corona rules before Germany. As the Spanish government announced a few days ago, German, French and Scandinavian tourists should be allowed to return without quarantine from June 22nd. But you cannot yet go on vacation * in all regions of Spain. 

Germans can soon go on vacation in the following Spanish regions after the Corona crisis:

  • Balearic Islands (Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca, Cabrera) 
  • Canary Islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomerra, El Hierro)

    Vacation 2020: Germans can travel to Spain again

    Regions like Andalusia and Catalonia may be included in the first reopened vacation destinations, according to a spokesman for the ministry for the AFP news agency. "We mainly work with German travel providers," said the ministry spokesman. British tourists, on the other hand, traditionally the largest group among Spain tourists, are excluded from the pilot project due to the situation in the Kingdom.

    The travel warning still applies to a popular holiday destination

The federal government has not yet decided how it wants to deal with countries outside the EU. Maas had been reluctant to do so on Tuesday. "It may take some time," he said. Turkey in particular, the number three among the most popular holiday destinations for Germans, hopes that the travel warning will also be lifted for them.
