Herozgenaurach (dpa) - The sporting goods manufacturer Adidas is well off the starting blocks in China after the lockdown in the corona crisis.
The customer base was lower in May than in the same month of the previous year, the Dax group announced on Thursday in Herzogenaurach. However, since customers bought more and online trade grew extraordinarily, the Swiss franc more than offset this. "As a result, sales growth was achieved in China in May," it said. Because of the unexpectedly rapid return to growth, the company now expects sales in China to be roughly at the previous year's level in the second quarter.
Almost all stores are operating again outside of China in Asia and the emerging markets. For Asia, the Asia-Pacific region was the largest market in terms of sales last year, and it also grew faster than North America and Europe. According to the current status, around three quarters of shops in Europe are open, albeit mostly with shorter business hours. While around half of the shops are open in Russia, the number is still significantly less than 50 percent in North and Latin America.
