In the case of the missing three-year-old Madeleine "Maddie" McCann, the BKA is investigating a convicted sex offender.
Wiesbaden - In connection with the disappearance of the then 3-year-old British girl Madeleine Beth McCann on 03.05.2007 from an apartment complex in Praia da Luz in Portugal, the Braunschweig public prosecutor's office is investigating a 43-year-old German citizen on suspicion of murder.

According to the BKA, the man accused by the public prosecutor's office is a sex offender who has had multiple convictions and has been convicted of sexual abuse of children, among other things. The man is currently serving a longer prison term for another sexual offense.
The accused lived regularly in the Algarve between 1995 and 2007, including for a few years in a house between Lagos and Praia da Luz. According to the information available here, he pursued several odd jobs in the Lagos area during this time, including in the catering trade.
