A major fire in a recycling plant in Diez near Limburg has been raging since Wednesday evening. The fire brigade is on site with several hundred emergency services. The extinguishing work should continue for hours.
Diez (dpa) - A recycling company has been burning in Diez near Limburg since early Wednesday evening. As the technical management of the Rhein-Lahn district announced, several thousand square meters were still burning on the site early Thursday morning.
During the night, the fire spread to a neighboring production plant that produces films and composites. The operations management assumed that the extinguishing work would continue until the morning. Two firefighters were slightly injured during the operation. The cause of the fire was initially unclear.
A further spread of fire has so far been prevented. The cloud of smoke is moving south to Hesse, the technical operations management said. So far, no limit values have been exceeded when measuring air quality, but the population is still asked to keep windows and doors closed and to switch off ventilation systems.
Several hundred emergency services from numerous fire brigade units from the Rhein-Lahn district with the support of units from the Limburg-Weilburg district, the Westerwald district and the professional fire brigades in Koblenz and Wiesbaden were deployed.
