As has now become known, on Saturday afternoon (May 30th) Stephan B. climbed over a fence of a courtyard in the Roter Ochse prison in Halle and walked around unattended for about five minutes. The Ministry of Justice announced this now. Then the guards detained him again. B. is said to have offered no resistance.

According to the Ministry of Justice , the assassin is not supposed to leave his camera-monitored cell without supervision. The ministry was reportedly informed of the incident on Tuesday (June 2) and is still working on it. As a first consequence, the supervisory staff were moved to other areas.

Stephan B. had tried heavily armed on October 9, 2019 - on Yom Kippur's highest Jewish holiday - to enter the synagogue in Halle . He shot a wooden door and threw explosives. When he failed to get to the synagogue, he shot a 40-year-old woman on the street and then a 20-year-old man in a nearby kebab snack bar.
