First the construction took longer than expected, then the corona pandemic overran the long-planned inauguration. Now the date for the opening of the Wiessee iodine bath is finally here.

Bad Wiessee - On June 15th, operations in the new Wiessee iodine bath will start. "Finally," says managing director Renate Zinser.

She has a lot to do these days. The authorities only approved the opening on Monday. The iodine sulfur bath is considered a massage practice with a bathing department and, as a health facility, is now authorized to start operating. "There is no risk of infection with us either," Zinser is convinced. Because in the 14 bathing cabins the guest is on his own. The bathing women wear a mouth and nose protection, the bathers can remove it in the cabin. "The guest can relax with us freely," explains Zinser. Thorough disinfection after each use is a matter of course in the iodine sulfur bath. "We always have this claim on ourselves," says Zinser. Both the cabins and the facilities for the eye baths are always meticulously cleaned and disinfected.

No date for the inauguration party yet

It will be a quiet opening. When and in what context an inauguration ceremony can take place is still completely open. "I would like to invite many, but unfortunately that is not possible due to the Corona requirements," says Zinser.

The demand is good. There are still appointments for applications, but there are plenty of bookings by summer. "People are always calling," reports Zinser. The opening times are much more generous than before. The new iodine sulfur bath is open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. An hour in the spa costs 40 euros.

This is significantly more than in the transition area above the bathing park, where only 28 euros were due per hour. But the ambience is also very different. With the new bathroom, star architect Matteo Thun has created an oasis of wellbeing that has nothing in common with the musty therapy rooms of the past.

Noble ambience in the new building

The 7.6 million euro new building enchants with lots of light, fine woods and tiles, watercourses and carefully arranged greenery. Officially, the building has long been handed over, but as a result of the crisis, a few small things are still missing. The plants for the courtyards are only being delivered, a lamp delivery from Italy is still pending.

The clientele will not notice any minor shortcomings. In order to test and optimize the system, Zinser invited employees and a few regular guests to a test bath (we reported). "Everyone was really excited," reports Zinser. But one or two improvements were still necessary. Sometimes the sun was dazzling, sometimes noises could be heard, in one case cold water poured into the tub. "But now everything is technically perfect," Zinser explains. With her team, she is really looking forward to starting in the new house.

Long wait for the opening

This was a long wait in Bad Wiessee. The historic iodine sulfur bath next to the Wandelhalle closed its doors at the end of December 2016. The bathing business continued in the transition area above the bathing park. The hope was to have to use it only very briefly. But in the end the makeshift lasted three long years. Despite the difficult room situation, the clientele was kept. Now there is great hope that the new house will help the bathing business to rebound.
