On Friday, the mayor of Washington had the slogan "Black Lives Matter" painted in massive yellow letters on a street leading to the White House in tribute to the victims of police violence.

Mayor Muriel Bowser's provocative message came as tensions remained high across the country following the death of a black man, George Floyd, in Minneapolis almost two weeks ago. The politician opposes Donald Trump over the use of federal laws and the use of the Republican Guard Reserve.

The streets around the White House have been at the center of protests that rocked the country to protest the death of 46-year-old George Floyd on May 25 after a white policeman blocked him with one knee on the ground neck for almost nine minutes.
