A few days ago in Paris, in the studio on rue Cambon, Virginie Viard welcomes us with a smile big enough to see through her face mask. She started in this very spot more than thirty years ago with Karl Lagerfeld, prior to succeeding him. Now, having just put the finishing touches to her Cruise collection (sold in stores in November), this discreet woman, who shuns the lens of photographers, meets with us to discuss her passion for Chanel and her devotion to the women she dresses. She gives Le Figaro her first interview since she has stepped into her role as Artistic Director for Chanel.
LE FIGARO - On Monday you will unveil your Cruise collection online instead of in Capri, where it was to take place in the beginning of May. When did you get back to work?
Virginie Viard - I was able to go back to the studio on May 4th. But obviously while I was quarantined, apart from video conferences with the ateliers, I had been unable to work. On the other hand, the idea of Capri came to me a year ago,
