A small aircraft crashes during takeoff at an airfield in Giessen, Hesse. One person dies, another is seriously injured. The recovery is difficult.
Gießen (dpa) - A small plane crashed on Saturday afternoon during the take-off process at the airfield in Gießen, Hesse. One person was killed, another was seriously injured, the police said.
"The plane crashed from 15 to 20 meters and then drilled vertically into the ground." That happened just a few meters from the airport building.
The seriously injured man had been released from the plane and was also approachable. The recovery of the dead is difficult because of the detonators installed. According to the police, these detonators are said to trigger the rescue parachute of the ultralight aircraft in the event of a crash. However, 15 meters are too low to trigger the device. An explosives expert is therefore needed for the rescue, which should arrive in the early evening.
Why the plane crashed was still unclear on Saturday. This could only be investigated further after the aircraft was salvaged. The Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation was involved.
