Berlin (dpa) - Chancellor Angela Merkel has described the measures taken to cushion the corona consequences as a mixture of the classic economic stimulus package and a future-oriented package that will last for many years. The classic stimulus package will take effect in 2020 and 2021.
The longer-term future package of 50 billion euros is necessary because climate change and digitalization are fundamentally changing the way business is done, the CDU politician said in her podcast released on Saturday.
She cited the hydrogen strategy, greater support for renewable energies and building renovations, and a change in mobility as examples. Efforts in the area of digitization would also be intensified.
The steps are only possible because the economy has been managed very well in recent years. Nevertheless, new debts would have to be raised now, said Merkel. But this also means "that we will need sound financial management again in the next few years".
