Münster - A new nationwide child abuse case has been uncovered. Investigators from the Münster (North Rhine-Westphalia) police have arrested eleven suspects.
Nationwide child abuse case uncovered: 27-year-old is prime suspect
Pre- trial detention was ordered against seven suspects in the new abuse case . There were six men and one woman. The main suspect in the new serious child abuse case is a 27-year-old IT technician from Münster. His mother was also arrested, as were men from Staufenberg, Hanover, Schorfheide, Kassel and Cologne.
Investigators have found large amounts of data carriers with the main suspect, which have been encrypted in a highly professional manner, said Chief Inspector Joachim Poll on Saturday (06.06.2020) in Münster.
Abuse exposed: Children are said to have been abused in gazebos for hours
To date, the investigators have not been able to decrypt all the data. Poll spoke of elaborate, tricky and technology-intensive investigations. The 27-year-old from Münster had worked in a farm in the Coesfeld district for IT technology.
The police also identified three children as victims during the investigation . They are five, ten and 12 years old, according to the investigators. The evaluation of a hard drive that had already been deleted showed that four men were to have sexually abused the five- and ten-year-old boy in a gazebo for hours .
Nationwide abuse case: North Rhine-Westphalia had previously made the headlines
The state of North Rhine-Westphalia had hit the headlines since early 2019 due to several cases of serious sexual abuse of children. At a campsite in Lügde in the Lippe district, several men had sexually abused children hundreds of times over the years *.
Investigations into a nationwide child pornography exchange ring had begun in Bergisch Gladbach near Cologne in October 2019 and now extend to all federal states.
North Rhine-Westphalia's Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) had declared child abuse a top priority after the Lügde case and strengthened the work of the investigative authorities in this area.
