Instead of "savings experts" they were theft experts. His target was supermarkets of the Dia% chain. They hit seven total. They made an exception with a service station, the band's eighth attack.
Six of the blows were in full quarantine , with the isolation decreed, by the advance of the coronavirus. The criminals fell for repeating the clothes and the car they used to escape.
The band was made up of a trio of thieves between 25 and 27 years old , residents of Caballito. Their debut was, according to official records, on October 26 of last year when they attacked a branch of Dia% in Donato Álvarez at 1500, in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Villa General Miter.
That day, the assailants arrived in a car. Two of them got out and armed demanded the collection of the boxes. Outside, the third one stayed in the hood and behind the wheel, prepared for the flight.
It would be just the first in a string of seven robberies against that supermarket chain. All the attacks were of similar characteristics and in the same area.
The assailants were following the same modus operandi and that made the investigation easier for the police.
The second attack occurred on November 5 in Juan B. Justo's Day at 5000, in the same neighborhood and just seven blocks from the first incident. Since that episode, the band did not return to acting or at least was not identified in other assaults for six months.
On May 22 they activated again. And like a "power trio" they started a furious six-round streak in six days. Five of the robberies went, again, to the same supermarket chain.
The first of this new series was at the Álvarez Jonte location at 4400 in Monte Castro. The thieves arrived in a white Honda City. Again, two got out armed and the driver was waiting outside. In a few seconds, they took the silver from the boxes.
A day later, the "robbery experts" appeared in Dia% de Nazca and Juan B. Justo, in the Villa Santa Rita neighborhood.
Other two shots came from the holiday on May 25. Taking advantage of the little movement in the streets, the Donato Álvarez branches were attacked at 1500 (for the second time) and the Bermúdez branch at 2000, also in Monte Castro.
Just 24 hours later, the band made the fifth blow in just four days to the supermarket chain. This time they went to Dia% de Álvarez Jonte at 5700 Villa Luro.
And the last robbery attributed to them is the only one that had a different target: the Juan B. Justo and Artigas YPF service station.
The string did not go unnoticed by investigators. The first thing they noticed was that the modality, the targets and the areas were repeated.
The points of all attacks. They are seven, because the gang attacked the same premises twice.
Analyzing the facts one by one, investigators from the Summaries and Brigades Division of the Communal Police Station 11 of the City Police discovered in the images of the security cameras that in three of the attacks the trio repeated the clothing. And they also always noticed the presence of the same white Honda City that they used to mobilize.
Thus they were able to identify the suspects who curiously lived a few blocks from several of the assaulted businesses.
With all these elements, the Police made five raids in Gaona in 2000 and 3700, Neuquén at 1400, Repetto at 900 and Linnaeus at 2100 last weekend.
There they arrested Nicolás Ezequiel Escobar (25), Gastón Ignacio Luciani (25) and Fernando Fabián Scatturice (27). In the operations, $ 3,900, a magazine of a firearm with ammunition, 27 grams of marijuana, two motorcycles and cell phones were seized.
As Clarín knew , the band stopped at Plaza Irlanda, in Caballito. Escobar practices kick boxing, is a Ferro fan and declared to the Police that he was an "employee". Scatturice has a criminal record for "simple robbery" and "threats" in a 2011 case, when he was a minor. And Luciani is also a fan of Ferro and, like his two colleagues, he had several blank jobs as a waiter until 2018.
