Doctors are busy looking for a drug or remedy for Covid-19. So-called antibody therapy seemed promising.
- In the fight against the Sars-CoV-2 * coronavirus, researchers from all over the world are looking for therapy.
- Covid-19 * has almost no symptoms in some patients, while others fight for their lives.
- In a clinical study, corona patients in China transferred antibodies from recovery.

Munich - Researchers all over the world are working on the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus . Feverishly look for a vaccine, medication or therapy for seriously ill patients. Transferring antibodies from already healed Covid-19 * patients to the sick looked very promising as a treatment approach.
A first clinical study on antibody therapy has now been published by Chinese doctors in the journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
Coronavirus: Antibody Therapy Tested in China - Doctors from Wuhan Report
A team of doctors from Wuhan reported only insignificant success in the treatment of seriously ill Covid 19 patients. Therapy with antibodies had shown little success within 28 days compared to standard treatment.
103 corona patients participated in the study. All were treated in the hospital. One group was given blood sera with antibody, the second group was given a placebo. The authors of the study point out that the study was ended prematurely and may also have limited the informative value of the results.
At a clinic in China, five patients with severe Covid-19 disease received and survived human blood plasma. But that is not yet evidence of a general effectiveness. The Ärzteblatt also reported online. The idea of curing sick people with blood from the genes has been around since the end of the 19th century. Doctor Emil von Behring successfully used the treatment approach for diphtheria. Behring was awarded the Nobel Prize for this in 1901.
Other clinical studies are also investigating whether antibody therapy is effective for the treatment of Covid-19 * patients. The result of the Chinese study is one of many.
What are antibodies to the coronavirus
The Sars-CoV-2 * coronavirus accesses the human cell via proteins - certain proteins. In the event of an infection, the body then forms special antibodies - protein molecules - against the virus. People survive a virus infection because their immune system produces neutralizing antibodies against the pathogens.
These are then found in the blood plasma. So far, science has assumed that people have protection after being infected with the coronavirus *. How long and how secure this protection is, still needs to be researched.

Corona vaccine: Entrepreneur Winfried Stöcker is said to have injected himself with an antigen and is now immune to the corona virus.
A team of researchers looked at why coronaviruses appear to be unable to harm children *. Your study has now been published.
