A 21-year-old from Lower Saxony is said to have announced an attack with many deaths on the Internet. According to the investigators, he referred to a right-wing extremist assassin.
Celle (dpa) - A 21-year-old from Hildesheim is said to have announced an attack with several deaths in an Internet chat.
As the General Prosecutor's Office (GStA) in Celle announced in the morning, the suspect in the chat referred to the right-wing extremist Christchurch assassin in New Zealand. His goal was to kill Muslims. Weapons were found in his apartment. He also found files with right-wing radical content.
The threat is said to be dated May 29. According to current knowledge, the 21-year-old has long been concerned with the idea of committing an attack with numerous deaths in order to get media attention worldwide. The day after the threat, the man was detained following a judicial order.
The Lüneburg district court issued an arrest warrant for disturbing public peace by threatening criminal offenses and suspecting terrorist financing because of the purchase of weapons. The Hildesheim district court previously rejected the application for detention.
The man is now being taken out of police custody into custody in a correctional facility. The Central Counter Terrorism Unit has taken over the investigation.
During the attack in Christchurch, which the 21-year-old reportedly referred to, an assassin attacked mosques and shot 51 people in March 2019.
