A bridge causes discussions in Feldkirchen. The construction displeases the residents. Something else was planned. But the ex-mayor decided.

Feldkirchen - The object of anger is a good three meters long. A bad metal bridge, some might say. In Feldkirchen, the new building in the "Dornacher Feld" residential area is causing a sensation. He was commissioned by ex-mayor Werner van der Weck (SPD). On your own, that is: without consulting the local council. This is angry with some councils, as well as some residents. They accuse the former city hall chief of replacing an originally “dainty Chinese wooden bridge” with an “oversized metal ramp”. But from the beginning.

Over 20 years ago, landscape architect Carmen Lefeber from Ismaning designed the new residential area “Dornacher Feld” in the north of the municipality. Under the motto that "a beautiful garden is like the robe of a house", the planners created curved paths and meadows. A small septic tank, now heavily overgrown with reeds and wet plants, picks up the rainwater from the adjacent office building and distributes it in the small pond. The small stream was spanned by a "delicate Chinese wooden bridge", as Erhard Magori calls it, who, with his family, represents numerous neighbors in the residential area as spokesmen. Because after 20 years the wooden bridge was no longer safe enough, it was replaced. "Through a completely oversized metal ramp, a bridge monster," complains Magori, who, just like his neighbors, is horrified.

Residents: Do not ignore aesthetics in residential areas

For cost reasons, however, the bridge should not be demolished again, but the local council and the public still had to be made aware that “in the recreational area of residential areas, one should not only act appropriately, but also aesthetically, and one should not completely ignore the original planning may, ”says Magori. After all, communities employed landscape architects for something like this and not steel locksmiths. Only who is responsible for the change of design? Like Mayor Andreas Janson (UWV), his predecessor Werner van der Weck made the decision on his own, which in principle was not objectionable within the scope of his budget and his competence.

Van der Weck stands by his decision. With this decision, he had saved the community a lot of money after talking to experts. “A hot-dip galvanized bridge is more economical, more durable and safer to drive than a wooden bridge that has to be maintained constantly,” he explains on request. In addition, the area is not a certified biotope, "that's just what it's called".

Thomas Zimmermann (UWV) disagrees. He says, "A hot-dip galvanized bridge is not allowed in a biotope because something is washed away with every rain". Branch manager Heinz-Josef Reiser promised to have this fact checked. Mayor Janson added that such sensitive decisions, even if he was allowed to do so in principle, would be decided in the building committee or local council in the future.
