China on Monday called on the United States to honor its commitment to halt nuclear tests under the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.

The group of prominent personalities of the treaty recently issued a declaration expressing its concern about the discussions conducted by American officials about the possibility of resuming nuclear tests and affirmed that if the American side does this, it will seriously undermine the global standard for "halting nuclear tests" and harms the mechanism of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.
The group also called on all countries to reaffirm their support for the treaty and take concrete measures to ensure the treaty enters into force at an early date.
Hua stressed that China urges the United States to fulfill its obligations due and fulfill its commitment to suspend nuclear tests and protect the purposes and objectives of the treaty. "We also hope that the United States will respond seriously to the appeal of the international community and do more things conducive to international nuclear disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation," he said.
