The net market in the center of Wiessee closes on June 20. Meanwhile, Mayor Robert Kühn is pulling all the stops so that a local supplier can move in again.
Bad Wiessee - The date is: On Saturday, June 20, Netto closes the small supermarket opposite the town hall. With a sales area of 332 square meters, the branch has offered cheap shopping in the center since 2009. The company does not comment on the reasons for the withdrawal. Christina Stylianou, Head of Corporate Communications at Netto Marken-Discount, also leaves open the question of whether Netto will leave the location or open a new location elsewhere. "We ask for your understanding that we cannot communicate any information about possible activities in Bad Wiessee at the moment," she says. Just so much: The tenancy for the building ends on June 30th. "The employees affected by the closure will all continue to work for Netto," explains Stylianou.
Net employees will continue to be employed
Netto no longer operates a market in the Tegernsee valley. The company closed a branch in Tegernsee in 2015. The end of the Wiesseer branch is not surprising either. Corresponding rumors increased a year ago.
The departure from Netto is a great loss for the place, says Mayor Robert Kühn (SPD). He is now watching live how well the market is frequented: The market is right next to his new workplace, the town hall. "Many older citizens shop there, but also a lot of trainees," reports Kühn. The market is easily accessible for many on foot or by bike. “And it's also the only cheap market in town.” For many, Aldi and Lidl are only accessible by bus.

Kühn has already had several talks about the net market. Especially with the owners of the building. Kühn makes it clear that Netto is closing the store, not because the landlords are willing to extend the contract with Netto. He suspects that the "old, small shop" no longer fits into the corporate structure. Apparently, the many construction sites in the area also reduced customer frequency, reports the mayor. The town hall is currently being expanded right next to the market.
Kühn's goal is for a local supplier to move into the rooms again. He is in close talks with the owners, he reports. "I do everything possible to make appropriate contacts." He was optimistic about the engagement of the owner family that the talks would lead to success.
Kühn had already worried about the future of the net market when he was not yet in office but was spokesman for the entrepreneurial association Aktive Wiesseer. In December 2019, he made a request to the town hall. At the time, he wanted to know whether there was a concept to revitalize the center and pushed for a presentation of the retail report. This is available to the municipality, but has not been presented to the public. Kühn now knows a little more. Kühn reveals that the report also states that Netto is probably closing.
Retail report shows deficits
It is known that the analysis shows some deficits. So a supplier and a drugstore are missing. In order to establish new shops, the municipality has a suitable area in mind with the Grühn site. After the closure of the Hotel Rex, the community of heirs wants to sell the property on the way through. But the Grühn siblings struggle to find a common path, which is why a first investor retired, annoyed. Since then, the development there has not progressed.
