Toboggan legend Schorsch Hackl is the godfather of a competition to which the waste professionals from WGV Quarzbichl point out.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen - In a press release, WGV Quarzbichl refers to a competition in the Bio Bin Germany campaign and encourages households to use the bio bin more efficiently and correctly. The campaign promotes the throwing of all compostable kitchen and garden waste into the organic waste bin, while at the same time ensuring precise sorting and freedom from plastics.

A video with toboggan legend and Olympic champion Schorsch Hackl explains the background: organic waste makes up a large proportion of our household waste. Unfortunately, however, a considerable proportion ends up in residual waste. Around three million tons of organic waste are disposed of in residual waste bins every year in Germany. Even garden waste is sometimes not recycled, because self-composters often put sick plants and weeding seeds that are not suitable for their own compost heap into the residual waste bin. Customers with small amounts of organic food could also share an organic bin with neighbors.

Biowaste in residual waste is not only illegal, it is also a great waste of valuable “raw materials”. Because instead of generating electricity and heat and then being able to do a good job after being processed as compost, organic waste in residual waste burdens the waste charges. The same applies if foreign substances get into the bio bin, including organic waste collection bags made of plastic or "bioplastic". They have as little to do in the organic bin as supposedly compostable products, packaging and coffee capsules. "Only then can the greatest possible benefit for the climate and the environment be achieved from the biomaterial," says the communication.

The Bio Bin Germany campaign has been part of the Federal Environment Ministry's “Five-Point Plan for Less Plastic and More Recycling” since 2018. Anyone who makes their organic bin promise online has the chance to win attractive prizes - for example, a train trip to Hungary to the Unesco World Heritage Lake Neusiedl or a BioTONi starter set to collect organic waste.
