The company has filed a patent for a feature that allows users to gather on the same photo, despite the distance.

Even if the deconfinement allows to break down many barriers, including being with friends, the always necessary respect for social distancing is not very conducive to reunion selfies, ready to be posted on Instagram. Fortunately, Apple may soon develop a solution to share a photo with loved ones while staying separate.

According to a patent filed by the smartphone manufacturer and unveiled by Patently Apple, the iOS user could soon invite his loved ones to create a group selfie in a dedicated application or a feature integrated directly into the iPhone's photography options. If they accept, each will have to take a photo separately and then send the photos to the original user so that they can be assembled a posteriori. The latter can then interchange the position of the members and manage the background for a uniform result. The patent specifies that the same technology could also be used for videos or live streams for example.

A myriad of patents

If the idea may seem straight inspired by the consequences of the Covid-19 epidemic, the Apple project actually dates from much longer ago. Indeed, the patent was accepted on June 2 but it had been filed in 2018. The company having not made official declarations on this subject, impossible to know when this functionality will be deployed, if indeed one day.

Recently, Apple has filed numerous patents in a wide variety of fields. The most recent include an automatic visual correction system for its augmented reality glasses project, a connected ring, which could interact with all the brand's other products, or even the Apple Car, this autonomous and electric vehicle in which Apple could invest according to analyst Katy Huberty up to $ 19 billion in 2020.
