Trump wrote on Twitter on Tuesday that the man could be an  "antifa provocateur" . The 75-year-old had "fallen harder than (he) was bumped". Furthermore, he may have tried to sabotage police communications equipment. Trump referred to a report by the controversial right-wing broadcaster OANN, which had spread a corresponding theory.

The two policemen who had knocked the man down in Buffalo have already been suspended. They are accused of assault, according to US media. Both pleaded not guilty to a court in the city of New York . A video had captured the incident. The 75-year-old was left on the sidewalk with bleeding on his head. Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo condemned the incident. Numerous Buffalo police officers demonstratively stood behind their two colleagues.

Update of June 9, 3:07 pm: British  Prime Minister Boris Johnson has expressed understanding of the growing protests against racism and police violence in his country and worldwide. The violent death of African American George Floyd has awakened an "irrefutable, undeniable sense of injustice," Johnson said in a video message on Twitter.

Britain has made great strides in the fight against racism in the past decades. Still, there is still a lot to do, the Johnson said. He therefore affirmed peaceful protest in compliance with the distance rules. On the other hand, demonstrations in which the measures to contain the corona virus are disregarded or the law is otherwise broken are not acceptable.

France has condemned the death of African American George Floyd as "outrageous". Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said on Tuesday at a meeting with police and residents in the Parisian suburb of Evry that Floyd had died "in unacceptable and (...) outrageous circumstances".

In New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced reforms to the police. The head of the city should reduce the budget of the police authority and instead put some of the money into youth and social work. He did not specify how much the police budget should be cut.
