At about 6 o'clock this morning (9th), the police received a report from the public that an owl was found on the roadside when passing by the airport road. It was suspected of being injured. After a round of search, the airport police area personnel discovered the owl at about 7 am, and the police immediately notified the airport authority and the AIA staff. In the meantime, police officers and AA personnel guarded the scene to prevent the owl from crossing the road by mistake and further being injured. By 10 a.m., the owl was sent to Kadoorie Farm for further inspection. The police appealed that if the public found any suspected animal injuries or suspected animal cruelty, please inform the police or call 2711-1000 to the animal care association emergency hotline. The injured owl is a lesser species of owl in Hong Kong

A spokesperson for the Animal Care Association pointed out that at 7:20 this morning, the Association received notification from the police that an owl suspected of being injured was found on Airport Road and requested the assistance of an inspector from the Association. As the AIA inspectorate team was dealing with other emergency rescue cases, they could not rush to the scene immediately. Fortunately, the police and airport staff stayed at the scene to look after the owl. After more than an hour, the inspector of the Association of Ai arrived at the scene, rescued the suspected injured owl, and then sent it to Kadoorie to be treated by experts.

The Association said that the injured owl was an eagle owl (Eurasian eagle-owl), which is a relatively rare species of owl in Hong Kong. The AIA urges the public to call the AIA 24-hour rescue hotline 2711-1000 if they find an owl suspected of being injured or fail to fly, and let the AIA inspector assist in handling it. In the past, many rescued owls were able to return to nature after being treated by Kadoorie experts, hoping that the public can protect wild animals.
