Die alone. To experience the end of his life, sometimes the last weeks sometimes, the last days often, the last hours always, without the possibility of seeing his loved ones; certainly alongside caregivers, but without those we love. Without looks or outstretched hands. This unbearable reality occurred in France just a few weeks ago. Yet it seems so far away, when terraces, beaches and parks are open again!

The directive was adopted almost three months ago today, March 11. The Ministry of Health prohibited the Ehpad to open their doors to relatives of the residents. Between this date and April 19, the day of the announcement of the lifting of this ban, 7,752 people died in nursing homes (there were 10,327 on June 1). My mother was one of those 7,752 lonely dead.
