A police loved by the French but considered discriminating

SURVEY - More than three quarters of those polled (76%) say they keep a good opinion of the police. However, the image of the police has deteriorated in five years.


The French love their police. This was measured by the survey carried out on June 10 and 11 by Odoxa-Dentsu Consulting for Le Figaro and Franceinfo with 1,005 people. Asked about the image of the police in the midst of controversy since the George Floyd affair, more than three-quarters of those polled (76%) said they had a good opinion of the police. A result which is unanimously political. Apart from the rebellious sympathizers who, at 59%, criticize the police institution, those of the other parties acclaim it. The rate reaches 79% on the PS side, 92% on the LREM side and peaks at 95% for the LRs and 81% with the RN.

However, this image has deteriorated in five years. Right after the attacks in January 2015, the rate of good opinion collected 8 points more. "Certainly, the study of February 2015 was carried out in a very specific post-Charlie context where the whole of France applauded its police officers (...) but, despite everything, the trend is very real and worrying", notes Gaël
