The prefect's legal recourse against the decision of the Collectivity of Corsica not to reopen colleges and high schools before September will not be studied "before the start of the new school year in September," the Bastia administrative court said on Thursday. "In the absence of suspension proceedings filed by the prefect of Corse-du-Sud, the files will not pass before the start of the new school year in September," AFP said the secretariat of the president of the administrative court of Bastia.

The prefect and the rector of Corsica had hoped at the end of May that these establishments, closed due to the epidemic of coronavirus and confinement, could again welcome the pupils during the end of this school year. "For many of our students, this return is an imperative necessity," they insisted, announcing that they had gone to administrative justice. The Community of Corsica, which owns secondary schools (colleges and high schools) and responsible for the agents responsible for their maintenance, had for its part invoked health security to justify its decision not to reopen them.

Contacted Thursday by AFP, the prefect of Corsica Franck Robine assured "prefer the outstretched hand to a solution that requires justice". "I want to believe that the situation will be resolved differently and in particular by work which must start with the Collectivity of Corsica," he said. "It is important that justice can rule to recognize that the community is not competent to close colleges and high schools," he nevertheless assured. The prefect assured to wait "a proposal of work on a case by case" from the president of the executive council of Corsica Gilles Simeoni.

Contacted by AFP, the latter assured refusing "a showdown on this issue" , the right to education being "essential". "We made a decision to prioritize public health, but we made it clear that there were different possibilities for organizing student reception, including in June," he said. According to him, the technical staff of colleges and high schools have been "made available to school leaders to enable them in particular to implement the health protocol and prepare for the start of the new school year in September".
