A garage worker participated in the march and was intercepted by the police on the way home. He was found to have a pocket knife and a punch. He pleaded guilty to possession of offensive weapons and prohibited weapons in the Kowloon City Magistrates' Court today (10th). The magistrate believed that he also had a self-made shield at the time, that he had foreseen that a violent incident would occur on that day, and planned to use it at that time. The weapon involved was serious and the case was sentenced to 8 months in prison.
Defendant Liao Limin (age 37) admitted to possessing 2 folding knives and punches on Hong Chong Road in Hung Hom on January 1 this year.
The case alleges that when a large-scale demonstration took place on the day of the incident, the police found that the defendant bowed his head and stepped up when he went to the place where the case was involved, so he stepped forward to intercept him and eventually found the items involved in him.
The defense pleaded that the defendant had participated in a legal procession on Hong Kong Island that day, but was on the way home at the time of the incident. There was no evidence in the case that the defendant intended to use the items in question, and the defendant carried those items only for self-defense.
