A man who had surrendered himself to the police was indicted and imprisoned Thursday for the murder of his wife, killed in a gunshot Tuesday in Suresnes (Hauts-de-Seine), learned the AFP with the Nanterre prosecution.

This 54-year-old man, who appeared Tuesday evening at the police station of this city near Parisian suburbs, was indicted for "murder of spouse", said the source. The body of his 37-year-old wife was discovered by the emergency services, a rifle at his side. She could not have been revived by the Samu.
To investigators, the man said his wife "threatened to leave him and leave with his son after having cheated on him with another man," a source familiar with the investigation told AFP. The couple's 14-month-old child stayed with his grandparents with whom he was living at the time of the incident, the source close to the investigation added.
The case brings to at least 29 the number of alleged femicides since the beginning of the year, according to an AFP count. In 2019, AFP recorded at least 126 cases of women killed by their partner or ex, i.e. a woman every three days on average.
