Corona: Deaths in younger patients are exceptions - RKI gives new figures on the age structure

Deaths in this age group are rare. However, the age structure of those infected in Germany is changing. According to the Robert Koch Institute *, the proportion of people over the age of 80 in the corona infected has been falling continuously since May. "In comparison, the proportion of cases in the younger age groups between 0 and 29 years increases," says the current management report.

Statistically, only 18.8 percent of those infected in Germany are 70 years or older - however, they account for 86 percent of deaths. The largest groups of those infected are people aged 20 to 49 years (43 percent) and between 50 and 69 years (31 percent). According to the cases registered by the RKI, there have been 21 deaths in the age group between 30 and 39 years, and nine in the age group 20 to 29 (as of June 10).

The Hamburg medical examiner Klaus Püschel * also supports the thesis that a large part of the deceased did not die, but died with the coronavirus, and thus their previous illnesses were the cause.
