The amount of water in the district was not without consequences: people were in need after the constant rain. On the Loisach as by bike.

District - You were in a tight spot. The two drivers of a blue rubber boat got into “distress” on Thursday afternoon. Fortunately, the rescuers of the Ohlstadt fire brigade and the UFing rapid response group (SEG) quickly found the boat and brought the two mid-20s to the shore on the Weichser bridge. "Unfortunately, the equipment for such a strong current was not ideal," says Manuel Achtner, head of water rescue in the district. But the unreasonable behavior of the duo frightened him more. The men wanted to continue their journey on the Loisach - even though they needed the help of the emergency services and advised them against the action.

The rivers swelled due to the heavy rainfall. From Wednesday afternoon around 3 p.m. until Thursday morning at 6 a.m., rain fell continuously in the district. The level of the Loisach rose by about one meter, the Isar remained below. Only in Eschenlohe did the water level approach reporting level three. The region, which had had to fight floods several times in the past, got away with a black eye. However, the situation should not be underestimated. The kayakers got to feel that. They were in need. No exception. Three missions took place almost simultaneously.

The kayak capsizes

A cyclist was stuck on the flooded road between Oberau and Eschenlohe. He could not free himself from his predicament. Achtner as well as the rapid response groups of the Grainau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Uffing water rescue teams and the emergency services moved out to help the man.

The next emergency call came hardly on the way. Two kayakers capsized and drifted in the Loisach. The Murnau fire brigade and SEG Uffing went to the Achrain bridge and fished the athletes out of the water, Achtner said. And saved their lives with it. The emergency services from Kochel and Weilheim received support, and the RK2 rescue helicopter from Tyrol was also alerted. The land rescue service then took care of the two capsized.

In the meantime there was an all-clear from Oberau. The fire brigade brought the cyclist to their tool shed, where the emergency doctor and emergency services treated him and then brought them to the Garmisch-Partenkirchen clinic. A total of 35 rescuers were deployed on the day of the water rescue services.
