The Pentecost holidays end in some federal states and in some a long weekend can be realized through the holiday of Corpus Christi. Does this cause traffic jams on highways?
Berlin / Munich (dpa / tmn) - Lots of traffic - you have to reckon with this in some places if you want to take the motorway this coming weekend (June 12th to 14th). However, according to Auto Club Europa and ADAC, things can get livelier from midweek.
In some federal states such as Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia or Rhineland-Palatinate, Corpus Christi is a public holiday on Thursday (June 11th). Those who take a bridge day there on Friday sometimes start the extended weekend on Wednesday afternoon. This also applies to Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, where Pentecost holidays also end.
According to the ACE, these vacation returnees mainly fill the return routes from the north. The ADAC expects the climax in the second half of the week, especially on Saturday (June 13th) and names congestion focal points in southern Germany and on the routes heading north. On Sunday, many short holidaymakers return, which fills mainly southern German highways and the highways of the metropolitan areas.
Although the ADAC foresees the traffic situation as "temporarily lively" and both clubs name routes with a risk of traffic jams, with the exception of bottlenecks caused by construction sites or disruptions caused by accidents, the ACE is at least not afraid of "long traffic jams" and expects a low overall traffic volume
