"This concerns less than 5% of trains this summer," said the company.SNCF indicated at the beginning of the week that it was banking on a return to normal for its traffic at the end of June. All the TGV, INOUI, OUIGO and Intercités trains circulating this summer are open for reservations and "are guaranteed to circulate" , assured the company, which has permission to sell all the seats on board (and no longer just one in two) since June 2. SNCF indicated at the beginning of the week that it was banking on a return to normal for its traffic at the end of June. All the TGV, INOUI, OUIGO and Intercités trains circulating this summer are open for reservations and "are guaranteed to circulate" , assured the company, which has permission to sell all the seats on board (and no longer just one in two) since June 2.

This “return to normal” is however not total. On social networks, some travelers have indeed expressed their dissatisfaction. They had the unpleasant surprise of receiving an e-mail or an SMS informing them of the cancellation of their trip, planned for July or August.

Occupation rate too low

"The health crisis has had a very strong impact on French travel plans and the occupancy rates recorded to date in the months of July (10 to 15%) and August (6%) are very low" , writes SNCF in Figaro. And to continue: "SNCF has made the decision to rationalize the circulation of its high speed and long distance trains to offer a nominal offer (between 95% and 100%) allowing a maximum of travelers to go on vacation this summer" .

As a result, some trains - at a very low occupancy rate - were therefore canceled. "This concerns less than 5% of trains this summer" , specifies the SNCF.

Customers who have booked tickets on these trains have been contacted or are in the process of being contacted by email or SMS, the railway company explains. “They have the option of switching to a train running on the same day at similar prices or canceling their ticket at no cost. Many places are still available on other trains on the same destinations ” at attractive prices less than 49 euros, concludes the SNCF.
