Magdeburg (dpa) - A CDU member who came under criticism for allegations of extremism has preceded a party exclusion procedure in Saxony-Anhalt and has left the party on his own initiative. The CDU announced.
The internet platform "Sachsen-Anhalt Rechtsaußen" published chat histories last week, which the member associated with a group of right-wing extremists.
The member is said, among other things, to a man from the said group with the words "Congratulations and Sieg Heil, Herr Hauptmann!" have congratulated on a promotion. The executive board of the CDU then initiated an exclusion process. "Such statements are intolerable within the CDU," said CDU country chief Holger Stahlknecht. In addition to the CDU, the person concerned was also active in the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund, but had already resigned from his post there on Thursday.
It is not the first time for the CDU in Saxony-Anhalt that one of its members is accused of right-wing extremism. In December, extreme right-wing activities of the then CDU district politician Robert Möritz, who subsequently quit the party, had become public.
