Starting Monday, Munich will again fly to twice as many cities as currently. In addition to holiday flights, there will also be long-haul connections.
Munich (dpa) - Starting next Monday, Munich Airport will fly to around 60 cities again, twice as many as before the weekend.
From next week, passengers could fly back to London, Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Nice or Dubrovnik, for example, the airport said. As the first destination in Asia, the Indian capital New Delhi is again on the flight schedule. On July 1st, another 30 destinations are to be added - including vacation destinations such as Antalya, Ibiza, Alicante, Corfu, Heraklion and Malta.
The corona pandemic had practically brought regular services to a standstill at the end of March. In May there were already 2,300 freight and passenger flights from Munich - but with 1,300 passengers a day, the volume was just 1 percent of the normally 130,000 passengers a day. On Thursday, however, 4000 passengers had already flown from Munich, said a spokesman.
However, most destinations are not approached as often as before the crisis. Instead of five connections a day, only 2 or 3 scheduled flights are offered weekly. Forecasts are difficult to make: "The airlines are now testing how the offers will be accepted," said the airport spokesman.
The Federal Government will lift its travel warnings for Great Britain, Iceland and Switzerland as well as for all EU countries except Spain and, as things stand, Sweden next Monday. They will continue to apply to more than 160 countries. However, these travel warnings are only recommendations, not travel bans. Destinations from Munich that are being flown to now or from next week include cities in countries that still have travel warnings - for example, Los Angeles and Chicago.
