In several municipalities in France such as Ivry-sur-Seine, the second round of municipal elections should, however, be just a formality. In this communist city since 1925, the outgoing mayor Philippe Bouyssou has already won 48.6% of the vote on the evening of the first round. Its alliance with the environmental candidate, with 22.1% of the vote, ensures it a very comfortable lead over its right-wing competitor, who came second.

Just over a quarter of the cities with more than 3,500 inhabitants hosting a second round on Sunday June 28 are in the situation of Ivry-sur-Seine. If we add up the scores obtained in the first round of the lists that merged in the second round, the list arriving at the top then widens the gap with an average of 15 points ahead of the second.
