Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that Russia Day is an occasion for all generations to remember the heroes who defended the homeland and its independence, noting that loyalty to the homeland has always helped the Russians to overcome adversity and challenges.
"I congratulate all our citizens inside and outside the country on this holiday," Putin said during a speech in Moscow today on the occasion of the National Day of Russia.
"Our history is built on these vast spaces, full of pages of great glory, pride, unprecedented courage and ancestral belief, faith and love for the lands of their fathers ... The love of the nation has always helped our people to overcome adversity, overcome the most difficult moments and face any challenges."
Putin paid tribute to the medical staff for its role in countering the spread of the new Corona virus and said, "During this period in the contemporary world, the new challenges and threats we face face the sacrifices, efforts and scientific contributions they have made."
Russia celebrates the National Day on the twelfth of June. On this day in the year 1990, the national sovereignty of Russia was declared during the first congress of the people's deputies in the Federal Republic of Russia.
