Many tickets of the Bavarian Oberlandbahn will be cheaper for the timetable change on Sunday. How the current VAT cut will affect is unclear.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen– The new Lint trains will be used at the Bavarian Oberlandbahn to change the timetable on Sunday, June 14th. The company announces. The vehicles replace the aging Talent trains and in the next step also the integral vehicles.

In addition, customers now benefit from the value-added tax reduction on train tickets agreed in the climate protection package at the beginning of the year. "In general, this means that train travel is cheaper for all passengers from a simple route length of at least 50 kilometers," says a press release from the Bayerische Oberlandbahn.

Reduced VAT: The decision from the climate protection package will be dealt with by the Bayerische Oberlandbahn

At the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB) - the new umbrella brand of the Oberlandbahn - the reduction in VAT also means that the good day ticket (2nd class) is cheaper by an average of seven percent. In the variant for five people, the ticket will then cost 50 euros instead of 55 euros previously. The Oberland MVV ticket is cheaper by an average of three percent, the Bavaria ticket (2nd class) valid in Bavaria for local transport by six percent. Single tickets are therefore cheaper by an average of nine percent, season tickets by an average of ten percent.

Implementation of the current VAT adjustment, which was decided as part of the federal government's stimulus package, would not be possible until the timetable change in mid-December 2020. "Because it takes around nine months to technically implement such changes," says the BRB announcement. "It would require extensive coordination and mostly unanimous decisions with 27 authorities, around 50 transport associations and all local transport companies in Germany." Whether and to what extent the VAT reduction can be passed on to passengers is still open.
