Geneva-Sana
United Nations relief agencies today warned of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen due to a lack of funding for necessary relief programs in parallel with the outbreak of the emerging Corona virus.
"More than 30 of the 41 programs supported by the United Nations in Yemen will stop in the coming weeks unless additional funding is secured," Reuters quoted Robert Colville, a spokesman for the United Nations Human Rights Office, as saying in a press briefing in Geneva.
In turn, Jens Larquet, a spokeswoman for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said that only 47 percent of the $ 1.35 billion pledged had been made for Yemen in early June, which is less than a billion dollars than the target.
The Minister of Public Health and Population of Yemen Taha al-Mutawakkil confirmed last mid-December that the health sector in Yemen is one of the civil sectors most affected by the Saudi aggression and the siege imposed by it, indicating that international organizations have not done their part to meet the needs of this sector in light of the unfair siege.
The continuous Saudi aggression since 2015 destroyed the Yemeni health sector, which led to the spread of epidemics and diseases and the death of tens of thousands due to the shortage of medicines and the siege that even children were not safe from.
