American writer and philosopher Cornel West emphasized that racial discrimination and violence by the US police cannot be separated from the overall imperialist policy of the United States.
In an interview with Middle East Eye, West pointed out that it is impossible to talk about the lack of importance for the lives of brown skinned people and the racist problems they face without talking about the military and imperialism of the United States.
Speaking of the protests in the United States against racism and police violence after the killing of African-American George Floyd, West considered that the main motive behind popular anger is the practices of the unaccountable elites and the strength and power of Wall Street companies and crimes in relation to legitimate theft under US laws In addition to the Pentagon’s authority and powers to direct drones to target innocent people around the world.
"The dark-skinned people will never be free under a predatory capitalist system, and they will never be liberated under an imperialist system and a strong Pentagon elite manages matters with military policies and kills people in Latin America and the Caribbean and elsewhere," West added.
The United States has been witnessing a massive popular protest movement since Floyd was killed on May 25, strangling the hand of American police, and the protests have turned into a global move against racism, with demonstrations taking place in various countries to denounce racial discrimination and police violence.
