The renovation of the Ludwigsbrücke continues. Now the makeshift bridges on which pedestrians and cyclists can safely cross the Isar past the large construction site have been released for use.

  • The Munich Ludwigsbrücke is currently being renovated.
  • Temporary bridges were now completed in several nights.
  • Pedestrians and cyclists can now safely cross the Isar again.

Isar bridging in the video

Munich - In fast motion, gigantic lattice cages float through the dark night sky, here and there the light of a welding machine flashes. Workers have recently built temporary bridges for cycling and walking . PanTerra.tv has documented the installation on behalf of the City of Munich. A video can be seen on YouTube.

Nocturnal bridging on the Isar

The approximately 50 meter long and 60 ton heavy bridge elements were installed on both sides of the Ludwigsbrücke for six consecutive nights . The makeshift bridges reduce the restrictions and increase safety for all road users during the two-year construction period .

The bridge renovation is not the only major construction site in Munich. A few other large-scale projects will be worked on in the state capital by autumn.

Renovation of the Ludwigsbrücke in Munich

As reported, the inner and outer Ludwigsbrücke will be completely renovated for a total of 25 million euros . An expert report had revealed age-related deficiencies in the statics of the building that make this renovation inevitable.

Among other things, the entire superstructure of the bridges has to be renewed - from the asphalt covering and the vertex joints of the outer Ludwigsbrücke to the supporting plates and the seals of the tram tracks.

Construction work on the Ludwigsbrücke: tram traffic must be stopped

For this reason, there has only been one lane for individual traffic per direction since May. The tram is scheduled to be discontinued on this route by the end of this year and is expected to be in spring 2022 .

After completion of the construction work , only one lane remains for the traffic. The city council had largely struggled to do this - including against the votes of the CSU and the FDP. Because the two groups fear traffic jams. It is planned that cyclists will get a wide lane in each direction, the previous narrow bike paths will be slammed for pedestrians. The tram stop has also been made more spacious.

There is good news from the Munich outdoor pools. They may open again - albeit with unusual rules in the corona crisis. And this does not only include the mask requirement *.
