Coronavirus: Schools and Day Care Centers as Foci of Infection? Are children really "virus hurlers"?

However, scientists from the Netherlands also found in a study that children under the age of ten play no role in the spread of the virus . The transmission between children or from children to adults is rare.

The significance of these studies is very high, says Schmidt-Chanasit: “These are epidemiological observational studies from different countries, all of which show a similar tendency. Their informative value is more reliable than laboratory studies in which only the viral load was examined. "

In view of these findings, the virologist * from the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg no longer sees any reason to keep schools closed. When will ensure that the classrooms are well ventilated and class associations remain separate in the playground, the stand school life no more obstacles. "Now is the right time to open the schools again," says Schmidt-Chanasit.

The newspaper Bild had already repeatedly brought the topic of school closings into focus - including a highly controversial article on a study by virologist Christian Drosten.
