Iran's permanent ambassador and delegate to international organizations in Vienna, Kazem Gharib Abadi, stressed that the US unilateral coercive measures against some countries and Washington's refusal to fund international organizations leave subversive repercussions on fighting the Corona virus, calling for condemning such measures.
In a speech before a meeting of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) yesterday, Ghareeb Abadi said: “Any decision, effort or position like a unilateral economic embargo including against independent countries or cutting off funding to international organizations undermines national, regional and international capabilities to combat the spread of the Corona virus and its devastating repercussions. He added, "These measures must be condemned because of their negative effects on humanity and the world at large."
Gharibabadi pointed out that the international community is now passing through a critical stage and that the number of injuries and deaths in Corona remains high in the world, noting the efforts of UNIDO to meet the challenges of Covid 19 and stressing at the same time the need for a comprehensive, coordinated and wide response to support countries in need to overcome these challenges.
Last month, US President Donald Trump ordered his administration to suspend the payment of the United States' financial contribution to the World Health Organization, citing what he called the UN's "mismanagement" of the Corona virus outbreak.
