It looks bad for piggy Rudi after the birth. Then Christine Hermann from the Starnberg animal shelter takes the little one home. And that makes discount.

Starnberg - Christine Hermann has been active in animal protection for over 30 years. But the manager of the Starnberg animal shelter has never experienced such a case. "It was the most exhausting animal I've ever had," she says - and adds: "But so cute." She speaks of Rudi. The Minipig, a small breed of pigs, is only a month old, but has already had an eventful life.

Rudi's mom died when he was born, and his owners desperately looked for a place for the newborn. A volunteer from the animal shelter discovered the ad on an internet platform - then everything happened very quickly. "I took him in for a night," says Christine Hermann.

Rudi's first night: trembling, screaming, not calming down

And what a night it was. "He was unable to calm down, trembled and screamed all the time," says the 54-year-old. Rudi was only 24 hours old and had not taken any food.

The foster mother got help in “emergency shelter groups” (Hermann). Although she often brings animal work home with her, it is currently chicks, "but I have never had a pig before".

Reptile sanctuary provides the best tips

Christine Hermann got the best tips from the reptile sanctuary. The animal shelter manager explains this by the fact that her colleagues there are repeatedly confronted with extraordinary animals and are well informed.

Thanks to the help, Rudi and his foster mom eventually found some sleep - together on the couch. Even Hermann's mastiff had to give in. Sirius was initially a bit irritated when the mistress arrived with the minipig, sniffed it and quickly got on with the cute part-time roommate.

Slept on the couch, then move number two follows

The next day Christine Hermann brought the pig to the Starnberg animal shelter. Small animal keeper Bianca Heilrath fell in love immediately, reports the boss. It was also she who gave Rudi his name. "Probably because of racing pig Rudi Rüssel," says Hermann and laughs.

The next move was just a few hours later for the little one - the third within a day and probably the last for a long time: "We found a really great family in the district," says Christine Hermann, "with children, dogs and cats two mini-pigs ”.

Animal shelter manager warns: Piggy not in apartments

Since Rudi has enough exercise, which is important. "It was once a fad to keep a piggy," criticizes the 54-year-old. Apartments are nothing for the animals, she explains.

Rudi's new family is “incredibly grateful” to Hermann. And for this special case, Corona is a happy coincidence. Because Rudi and his new family have a lot of time to get to know each other.
