Today, several Australian cities witnessed mass demonstrations in which thousands participated in rejecting racism and in solidarity with the protests taking place in the United States and several countries after the murder of George Floyd, an African American, by the American police.
Reuters reported that the protesters marched through the streets, others gathered in public parks and held up signs saying "No justice, no peace" and "We apologize for the inconvenience trying to change the world."
Perth saw the largest gathering of all Australian cities, despite calls by the Prime Minister of the State of Western Australia Mark McGowan to cancel the assembly until the demise of the Corona pandemic.
Protesters gathered in Melbourne and Sydney and demanded freedom for the detainees held indefinitely in a number of detention centers in Australia.
Several countries recently witnessed demonstrations against racism after Floyd was suffocated last month in Minneapolis by an American policeman while he was in US police custody.
