Racism allegations at Rossmann in Berlin: A woman is said to have been verbally attacked and called the police - but she was probably no help either.

  • In Berlin, a woman in the Rossmann drugstore chain is said to have been racially insulted.
  • The evoked police only told her that it was her fault, according to the woman.
  • A politician who happened to be present made a video and posted it on Facebook  - now the case is making waves. The police * are also in need of explanations.

Berlin - "On Saturday we were all still together at the demo and called" Black Lives Matter "- and as soon as normal everyday life begins, you will be racially insulted again," Vanessa H. from Berlin told rbb.

She was - according to her own information - at the checkout of the Rossmann drugstore chain, wanted to pay at the checkout - when a cashier apparently stopped her.

Racism Incident at Rossmann in Berlin? Allegations and insults against black people?

The cashier is said to have accused her. that her debit card was fake - because it did not relieve her of having a "German-sounding" surname. When Vanessa H. wanted to defend herself, a colleague of the cashier is said to have said to her: " Shut up ."

Vanessa H. calls the police. "And the first thing the policeman tells me is that it's my fault," the woman later said in a video that was posted on Facebook.

Racism Incident in Berlin? Police want to investigate the incident

The incident became known because Hakan Tas , a member of the Left in Berlin, filmed the woman after the incident and shared the video - he claims to have come by. In the meantime, he sees himself under attack - as the taz writes, he is attacked by the AfD in a video that the taz calls "a piece of agitation" .

A spokesman for the Berlin police spoke to rbb about a "serious allegation" that needs to be investigated. According to rbb, Rossmann also regretted the incident and wanted to sensitize his employees to "everyday racism."

Racism Incident in Berlin? Vanessa H. probably not an isolated case

Further police investigations will probably show how exactly the facts are to be assessed . It is clear that Vanessa H.'s experience should not be an isolated case - social scientists describe it as "racial profiling" when people are classified as non-belonging and thus potentially dangerous by state organs due to their appearance . Actions that this entails - such as enhanced controls or non-faith-Donation - are based on research often tacitly tolerated here by the company and thus has made it socially acceptable. This creates a vicious cycle for the victims.

The "Black Lives Matter" movement had recently received a massive boost following the violent death of African American George Floyd.
