The number of new deaths related to COVID-19 rose to 44 in Italy, against 78 the day before, announced Sunday the civil protection agency which recorded 338 new infections in 24 hours against 346 Saturday.

The epidemic, since it appeared on Italian territory on February 21, has claimed the lives of 34,345 people in the country, placing Italy in fourth position behind the United States, the United Kingdom and Brazil in terms of death. The number of confirmed infections amounts to 236,989, which places Italy in seventh place in the world, behind the United States, Russia, Brazil, Spain, the United Kingdom and India.
The number of people registered as being currently carriers of the disease decreased to 26,274, against 27,485 the day before. The number of patients hospitalized in intensive care fell Thursday to 209 against 220 the day before, confirming a long-term downward trend.
