They are still waiting at the Volkshochschule Fürstenfeldbruck to find out when they can really get going again.

Fürstenfeldbruck - The state government has decided to relax the adult education centers. Up to and including July, according to the Brucker VHS website, no operation will be possible. And the longer the compulsory break lasts, the bigger the gap in financial planning becomes.

Many want to help. The state government has set up a rescue package for the lecturers in adult education, and the city council of Bruck - the city is the only shareholder - has recently also heard that the VHS will not be left out in the rain. How extensive the help should be, was not yet known. It is now becoming apparent that the € 12,000 donations from citizens for which the VHS team recently thanked in a press release can only cover a small portion of the shortfall through failed courses.

Significantly more grants from the city are needed

In a template for the upcoming meeting of the municipal finance committee on Tuesday, the subsidy required for the resumption of VHS operation under corona conditions is estimated at 270,000 euros for the 2020/2021 marketing year. For the months of September to December 2020 alone, the VHS will need 50,000 euros more in grants than provided for in the city's financial planning.

In order for the money to flow, the sum must be decided together with the supplementary budget, which the committee will discuss for the first time on Tuesday. The city has to find ways to close a gap of nine million euros, which is estimated to result from collapsing tax revenues this year. According to the combing company's previous calculations, this should be possible solely through savings.

VHS is named after its founder

The Fürstenfeldbruck Adult Education Center will in future be called the Gretl Bauer Adult Education Center. The new name is intended to commemorate one of the pioneers of adult education in the district. Gretl Bauer, full name Margarete Bauer-Elkan, was born in Munich in 1894. In 1911, her mother Elise founded a children's home in Neu-Esting, which Gretl Bauer took over in 1925. As a half-Jew, Gretl Bauer was defamed during the Nazi era, and her children's home was closed in 1938. After the war ended, she continued it until 1960.

The adult education center Fürstenfeldbruck emerged from Bauer's “Working Group of People with Intellectual Interests” in 1947. Bauer became its first chair. Extensions quickly emerged, which were combined to form a district association in 1952. Christian Götz (BBV), a member of the VHS board and the city council, had applied for the name to be changed. Both bodies have already approved the renaming.
