Last update date: 2020-06-15 21:02Correctional officers stopped a female prisoner sentenced to imprisonment for rioting self-harm at Luohu Correctional Institution yesterday (14th). At 9:13 last night, the correctional officer found that the 24-year-old female inmate suddenly felt unstable in the observation room of the institution hospital, and ran into the gate and underground with his head. The correctional officer immediately stopped drinking and called for support to the scene . The person in custody was sober at the time, and after being examined and treated by the hospital, he was transferred to a public hospital for further diagnosis and treatment. The Correctional Services Department stated that the department’s clinical psychologists will follow up on the case.
A spokesman for the Correctional Services Department said that the Department has always taken all feasible measures, including administrative arrangements, improved institutional facilities, staff training and first aid care, to prevent persons in custody from committing suicide or self-harm. The person in custody was sentenced to prison in November 2019 for the crime of riot.
