TJ Parker, the green light

2020-06-17T12:30:49.180Z

The president's brother will be the new coach of ASVEL Lyon Villeurbanne. Assisted by Frédéric Fauthoux.

A family matter. In the Parker family, TJ is number 2, between Tony and Pierre. He was appointed coach of ASVEL Lyon Villeurbanne, the club chaired by his brother Tony, to replace Montenegrin Zvezdan Mitrovic, dismissed at the end of May.

Trained at Northwestern University, Terence Jonathan Parker (36), knows the French elite well. He played at Paris Basket Racing (2005-2007), Nancy (2007-2009), Villeurbanne (2009-2010) then Orchies (2010 in Nationale 1). Before returning to Asvel to appear in the management eight years ago. He has already held the position of head coach for several interim periods, notably the 2017-2018 season after the dismissal of the Franco-Canadian JD Jackson with whom he was assistant between 2014 and 2018.

TJ was waiting for the green light. The one his brother would present to him. After climbing all the ranks, grow up. In the dark. Forging his experience and not content with the name carried as a sesame. Faced with the crucial choice of coach and staff, Tony Parker consulted, costed, before deciding.

“At some point, you have to give him a chance and I think he is the right person to continue to carry all the projects that we have for this club. It's a big turning point in his career. ”

Tony Parker

"I think it's a good time for TJ, he learned well for eight years. It's the right timing. For me, there is no real surprise. I had already said that it would be him and that we were preparing him for that. I trust my instincts and I think TJ is ready. We talked about it a lot in the club, I talked about it with the leaders of the team, be it Charles Kahudi and Antoine Diot. I feel very comfortable with this decision. At some point, you have to give him a chance and I think he is the right person to continue to carry all the projects that we have for this club. It's a big turning point in his career, "said Tony Parker in L'Equipe .

TJ Parker has signed for three years. He will be assisted by Frédéric Fauthoux (47), former teammate of Tony Parker in the France team, who has also signed up for three years, after ending his adventure with Levallois whom he has led since 2015.

If Tony Parker has played the confidence card, he is betting on a continental level where the youth and inexperience of the duo will be put to the test. Performance, consistency, intransigence of the president, the duo knows the magnitude of the challenge. Tony Parker sums up in L'Equipe when putting the costume on his brother's shoulders: “Like all other coaches, he knows the rules of the game, he knows the pressure. He is aware of expectations. He knows very well that I will not have moods if we do not have the results we want. The club will always come first. We have to make a difference. ”
